Farm Tour – Seed Germination & Planting

Where do we source our seeds?

We have purchased from Johnny’s, Seedway, Kitazawa, Snow Seed and many more.

We plant only non-genetically modified, untreated seeds. Conventional seeds may be treated with fungicides and other treatments to boost germination rates and prevent diseases. We do use some hybrid varieties which are resistant to common diseases and help us achieve a crop without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides. For organic certification, we are required to search for organic seed from at least three suppliers. If we cannot find the variety we need to grow (adapted for our area, climate, etc.) then we can source conventional, untreated seeds according to National Organic Program guidelines.

Do you save your own seeds?
Yes! We save our own roselle seeds, sunflower seeds, and Seminole pumpkin seeds. We supply some of these seeds to a small seed company, called TrueLove seeds, which you can support here.
