North Central Florida typically stays cooler than Central Florida and the coast during January. So far we’ve followed the trend but we had some of our fruit trees wake up from dormancy early last week from the warm weather around new years. This week is looking cool and dry, which will help a lot of our winter greens and lettuces. We dodged a frost last week by just one degree or so and we’re hoping for more mild weather ahead. We’re busy today completing the weeding and second hay application on all of our strawberries. Thanks again to all the volunteers who came out in October to help us plant. The crop is looking beautiful with lots of green berries for pickling available this week. This week we recommend roasting our super sweet yams and heirloom Murasaki sweet potatoes, making a salad with our red leaf and romaine, and baking some home-made biscuits to enjoy with our heirloom cane syrup.
