The El Niño rain continues into February. We saw over a foot during January this year (the average is around 4″ for the month). Luckily as the days grow longer our ecosystem begins to have the capacity to use all this great water. When we see cold temperatures the water seems to sit much longer as the microbes do not “drink” it to metabolize their food. As the temperature goes up the microbes start turning over more rapidly which uses the abundant water. In our organic system we strive to achieve a balance in soil microbes by feeding them carbon and rotating our crops. This week we’re starting to see everything work together as the plants are thriving out in the fields with their roots raised high above the drains (to increase the oxygen availability). The more years we do this the more we learn to celebrate the abundant seasons. This week we thank you all for helping us get all this awesome produce to the people who need it! -Farmer John
