In the last few weeks we’ve experienced weather much dryer than normal and we’ve only been lucky enough to see rain fall one day. We’ve been working miracles to repair irrigation equipment and keep our fall plantings from drying up before they mature. Thankfully the unseasonable heat wave from last week finally broke and we’re starting to feel the first breaths of fall air. The roselle hibiscus crop is starting to arrive in quantity and we’ll be picking three different blocks this week. Even when we plant these areas over a month apart they all align to weather and light patterns and come into fruition at the same time. We also have multiple varieties of heirloom and improved persimmons ripening in multiple areas of our orchard this week. We recommend freezing the heirlooms and baking with them all winter long. They are a great sugar replacement that make rich and moist breads, cookies, and muffins. -Farmer John
